Please reach us at gill@meglovesart.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Indeed I do! Details of what's involved can be found in this FAQ, but please get in touch to discuss your particular portrait needs, and I'll be happy to guide you through the process.
I am available for commissions throughout the year. Feel free to message me for any further information, inspiration or advice.
Most of my pieces are A4 in size and this is what I would recommend for a portrait of one pet, in colour, using pastel on specialist pastel paper. The cost of this is £225.
If you would like a larger piece, in A3, perhaps of two pets, using the same materials as above, would be £395.
Larger sizes are available on request.
Pencil pieces are priced the same as above.
Please inquire with me directly for the price of an oil painting. These can be more time consuming, especially as the layers need to dry in between painting sessions.
If and when you decide you'd like to proceed with a portrait I ask for a £50 deposit which will be deducted off the final cost of your portrait.
Usually, I take a month from instruction to complete your piece, sometimes this is quicker but I aim for 4 weeks in case I have multiple commissions.
When considering which picture you would like, I would suggest sending me as many good quality images that you have of your pet and I will make a recommendation based on the images I receive. There will usually be one or two I would consider most suitable.
But if you have one pose in particular you have in mind, I am happy to go with your choice, as long as the picture is of a good enough quality to see the detail.
I have a a Diploma in Pet Portraiture from London Art College, completed in 2023.
I loved art at school but could never imagine how I could make a career of it, which the careers advisors thought sensible, and therefore I pursued various careers including that of a high school Geography teacher.
I re-found my love of art after moving to Tattenhall, in Cheshire, and finding a thriving local art community of like-minded art enthusiasts. In particular after adopting our cocker spaniel puppy, Meg, I re-found my joy in creating pet portraits for friends and family. I have been taking commissions of people’s pets for a while now, primarily of dogs in all shapes and sizes, but also of other pets and animals.
I work in a rage of media, but most of my colour portraits are in Pastels.
I also love using pencil to create detailed pieces if that is a preferred medium from a customer.
Oil painting is my other passion and can also be a lovely medium for creating a pet portrait.
All my work would be presented in a basic but complementary frame, with a card mount and Perspex glass. This is because I prefer not to ‘fix’ my pastels with fixative spray as I find it can deaden the colours. Having a mount around the edge of the work keeps the picture safe and the glass away from the piece so there is no risk of it smudging.
However, if you would like me to organise for your piece to be professionally framed then I would be happy to organise that. This starts in the region of £100 for an A4 piece.
If you live within a 10 mile radius of Tattenhall, Cheshire, I am happy to personally deliver your piece or for it to be collected in person.
Further within the UK prices start at £25.
International postage starts from £35.
Shipping costs can be confirmed on enquiry.
If for any reason you are not satisfied with your portrait, please contact me within 14 days of receiving your artwork to discuss any issues, or to discuss a return or exchange. Please note that original shipping costs are non-refundable and the buyer is responsible for return shipping costs.
